Call of Duty developer Infinity Ward heeft gesuggereerd dat de mensen die zich het meest bezighouden met de franchise niet altijd ‘echte’ gamers zijn, omdat ze geen één andere titel spelen die niks met de serie te maken heeft. Dit alles komt uit de mond van executive producer Mark Rubin, die aan OXM vertelde dat hij niet verwacht dat de komst van de next-gen consoles een grote impact zal hebben op het CoD-publiek.

“Regardless of platform – people’s gaming habits aren’t going to change just because there’s a new platform. We have an enormous amount of players who are more in the casual game space, but they play a lot.

It’s kind of a weird, ironic thing to say; They aren’t hardcore gamers, or even gamers, but they play Call of Duty every night. And those guys are going to continue to play regardless of platform.

So I think not only will we continue to engage with that existing player base, but we’ll take next gen and see how far we can go with it.”

Het is veilig om te zeggen dat hij het hier heeft over het overgrote deel van de Call of Duty-fanbase, welke zo’n beetje alleen maar een gameconsole heeft voor Call of Duty. Je hoeft je dus niet aangesproken te voelen als je ook maar één game hebt waarvan de titel niet eindigt met Duty.
