Vanaf volgend jaar kunnen we gebruik maken van een nieuwe technologie op de PlayStation 3, want in de lente komen dan de motion controllers uit. Hiermee gaan ze de concurrentie aan met de Nintendo Wii en natuurlijk kan Microsoft niet achterblijven. Zij zijn inmiddels bezig met hun project Natal.

Het hoofd van de marketing voor Sony Computer Entertainment America (SCEA) John Koller heeft over het project van Sony een interview gegeven tegenover GamePro. Hij is aardig duidelijk over de toekomst van de motion sensing technologie van Sony, dat hij zelfs zegt dat de Wii en Natal op een gegeven moment achterblijven op Sony.

Dit is nogal een sterke uitspraak die Sony dan ook waar moet maken volgend jaar. Natuurlijk hopen we dat de motion sensing technologie heel sterk wordt voor de PlayStation 3 en ook gelijk de multifunctionaliteit van de gameconsole een extra boost gaat geven. We zullen het merken wanneer we eindelijk met de motion controllers aan de slag kunnen.

“In terms of the best types of games, I’d say that right now we’re looking at a real wide variety of genres that can utilise the technology. I think the areas that are going to be really critical to our success will be family games, as well as shooter and sports games. Those are going to be the areas that will really define success because they’re areas that, quite honestly, I think Project Natal and the Wii are going to have trouble matching from a differentiation standpoint. We look at motion control as being that much more than what exists on the market. The Holy Grail of gaming is placing you as a consumer into the game physically. When we provide further details, people will see exactly where we’re going.”
