Nu Activision drie ontwikkelaars heeft aangesteld om Call of Duty games op de wereld te krijgen, krijgt elke studio maar liefst drie jaar de tijd om een spectaculair avontuur uit zijn mouw te schudden. Meer tijd betekent hopelijk ook meer kwaliteit, en dat is een statement dat Patrick Soderlund van concurrent EA naar waarde weet te schatten.

Zo stelt de man dat ze een soortgelijk plan in hun hoofd hebben voor hun populaire Battlefield-franchise. Een drie jaar durende ontwikkelingscyclus voor DICE dus en dan tussenin af en toe een andere studio die het roer even overneemt. In dit geval is dat Visceral, dat in 2015 met Battlefield: Hardline op de proppen komt.

“I think what they’re [Activision] doing mimics to some extent how we’re thinking. Obviously, more time, if managed correctly, yields a better product. So I would say that we’re similarly aligned, and that we’re taking a similar approach, but we haven’t articulated exactly what teams are working [on], because that would simply announcing things that we can’t right now.”

“The first thing we have to do is get to a spectacular engine, so that our teams can work as effectively as possible in our engine environment. The second thing we need is teams. We need a bunch of really great development people that can get together and make spectacular games. And then the final thing we need is obviously time.”
