Gaikai, iedereen heeft er inmiddels wel iets van meegekregen. Het is straks mogelijk om via Sony’s cloudnetwerk games te streamen naar de PlayStation 4. Op de Gamescom werd er helaas geen woord over gerept.

Dit had een reden, zo legt Sony’s CEO, Jim Ryan uit in een interview met EDGE Online. De Gaikai service wordt allereerst uitgerold in Noord-Amerika, in een later stadium komt Europa pas aan de beurt. Aangezien de Gamescom vooral is gericht op de Europese markt en omdat er nog veel onduidelijkheid heerst over Gaikai in Europa, sprak Sony niet over de service.

Gaikai is in 2014 beschikbaar in Noord Amerika, de prioriteit ligt uiteraard bij de PlayStation 4. Als de streaming service eenmaal goed functioneert, brengt Sony Gaikai naar de PlayStation Vita en tenslotte naar de PlayStation 3. Wie weet speel je dus straks gestreamde games op je PlayStation 3 of Vita!

“Yeah sure and I’ll tell you why is wasn’t touched upon last night. So the plan is to begin with North America next year and the plan is to provide a streaming service that will allow for PS3 content initially to be streamed to firstly PS4 then PS Vita and then PS3.

And so that will happen in 2014 in North America initially. Now, and I touched upon these issues of broadband in Europe during the presentation – Europe is of course on the roadmap for that service to be deployed at some point in the future, but for reasons outside of our control we don’t yet have a timeline for it.”
