Niet GTA V, maar toch Call of Duty: Ghosts is hard op weg om de meest geserveerde game van 2013 te worden. Dit wordt althans gezegd door GameStops’s senior VP of merchandising Bob Puzon, zo is te lezen in een persverklaring die is uitgegeven.

“Call of Duty is an entertainment juggernaut and cultural phenomenon. We are excited for the upcoming release of the new instalment of this blockbuster franchise. We look forward to celebrating the worldwide November launch of this great game that is on track to be the most pre-ordered title of the year.”

Wel staat dit bericht enigszins haaks op de uitspraken die Eric Hirshberg, CEO van Activison, vorige maand deed tijdens meeting met investeerders. Hij gaf namelijk aan dat vanwege de overgang van current-gen naar next-gen dit jaar het aantal pre-orders voor Call of Duty: Ghosts niet het record zal breken van Black Ops 2. Dat heeft er volgens hem ook mee te maken dat veel gamers nog altijd aan het twijfelen zijn of zij Call of Duty: Ghosts nu voor de huidige of voor de volgende generatie consoles moeten aanschaffen.

“As one might expect in this console transition year, pre-orders for Call of Duty: Ghosts are well below the record-setting pace set by Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 last year. However, our quantitative consumer research indicates that hesitation amongst past club pre-orders is primarily due to not knowing which platform they will be playing on, which is natural at this time in the console transition.”

Of GTA V het nu is of dat Call of Duty: Ghosts het nu wordt, feit blijft dat het goudhaantje van Activison ook dit jaar weer heel veel geld in het laatje zal brengen.
