Hoewel Microsoft een concurrent is van Sony in de zinderende consolewar, heeft SCE Worldwide President Shuhei Yoshida toch lovende woorden over voor de grote concurrent. In een interview met Giant Bomb laat hij zich positief uit over het nieuwe beleid wat Microsoft volgt ten aanzien van indie developers. Dat is volgens hem juist het voorbeeld waarom de competitie tussen Sony en Microsoft zo belangrijk is.

“That’s a great example on how competition is great and important. If there was only one company, that company could decide the pace and priority of things.”

“But if there are two similar projects and two companies competing, that’s, I think, the best situation for both consumer getting really the best out of these two groups, but also, it creates stories.”

Volgens Yoshida draagt de koers die Microsoft gaat varen er juist aan bij dat het interessanter wordt om alles wat er in de game-industrie gebeurt te blijven volgen. Hij is daarom oprecht blij met de competitie tussen Sony en Microsoft, dit houdt men bij Sony juist scherp volgens hem. Daardoor is het voor Sony zaak om niet verslappen en moet men altijd naar zichzelf blijven kijken.

“You know, exactly like you asked, “Microsoft did this!” and then there’s a reaction. So that creates a new story and that competition makes what’s happening in the game industry more interesting to the general public and I think that’s really helpful.”

“So I’m really happy that we have strong and great competition with Microsoft and I appreciate them. They’re really smart speople and very resourceful, so that always keeps us on our toes and looking at ourselves, if we’re doing enough.”

Opvallend is ook dat beide consolebouwers zich relatief rustig houden wat betreft moddergooien. Dat was zeven jaar geleden toen de PlayStation 3 en Xbox 360 uitkwamen wel anders.
